What It Is Used For

Clotrimazole is an antifungal medicine. As a cream it treats ringworm, athlete’s foot, jock itch and yeast infections of the skin. As a vaginal tablet or cream it treats vaginal thrush.

How to Use It

Skin: wash and dry the area, then apply a thin layer 2 or 3 times a day. Keep using it for 2 weeks after the skin looks clear, usually 2 to 4 weeks in all. Vaginal tablet: one 500 mg tablet at night, or as the pack or your doctor says.

Who Should Not Use It

Do not use it if you are allergic to Clotrimazole or other ingredients of the cream.

Side Effects

Mild burning, itching, redness or irritation where it is applied.

Precautions

For use on the skin or in the vagina only; keep it away from the eyes and mouth. Vaginal products can weaken condoms and diaphragms. See a doctor if the skin is not better after 4 weeks, or thrush is not better after 7 days.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

The cream can be used. In pregnancy, insert vaginal tablets by hand rather than with an applicator, and ask your doctor first.

Interactions

No important interactions when used on the skin.

Storage

Store below 30°C, out of the reach of children.
