Indications
Immortelle (Helichrysum italicum, also called everlasting flower or curry plant) is a Mediterranean herb whose extract and essential oil are used in skin-care and intimate hygiene products. It is added to washes, creams and serums to soothe irritated or sensitive skin, calm redness and support the skin barrier. Its use is mainly cosmetic and traditional; scientific evidence for medical benefits is limited.
How It Works
The flowers contain natural plant compounds (flavonoids, phenolic acids and aromatic oils) that have shown mild anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antimicrobial effects in laboratory studies. In products it helps calm the skin and may support healing of minor irritation. It does not treat infections.
Dosage and Administration
Use the finished product as directed on the label. For an intimate wash, apply a small amount to the external area only with water, then rinse well; do not use inside the vagina. Creams are applied in a thin layer to clean skin. Do not apply undiluted essential oil to the skin.
Interactions
No drug interactions are known with external use.
Contraindications
Do not use if you are allergic to Immortelle or other plants of the daisy family (such as chamomile, marigold, chrysanthemum or ragweed), or to any ingredient of the product.
Side Effects
- Skin irritation, stinging or redness
- Allergic contact rash in sensitive people
Get urgent medical help if you develop swelling of the face, lips or throat, widespread rash or difficulty breathing. See a doctor if you have unusual vaginal discharge, itching, sores or a bad smell, as these may be signs of an infection that needs treatment.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Use of external washes and creams containing small amounts of the extract is generally considered acceptable, but there is little safety data. Avoid undiluted essential oil during pregnancy and breastfeeding and ask a doctor if unsure.

- For external use only; avoid the eyes.
- Do a small patch test first if you have sensitive skin or allergies.
- Stop using if irritation develops.
- Keep essential oils away from children.
