Indications

Netarsudil eye drops are used to lower raised pressure inside the eye in people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Some products combine it with Latanoprost for a stronger effect.

How It Works

Netarsudil is a Rho kinase inhibitor. The eye constantly makes a clear fluid that must drain away; when it drains poorly, pressure builds and can damage the optic nerve. Netarsudil relaxes the eye’s main drainage tissue (the trabecular meshwork) so fluid flows out more easily, and it also reduces fluid production a little.

Dosage and Administration

The usual dose is one drop in the affected eye or eyes once daily in the evening, or as prescribed. Wash your hands, tilt your head back, pull down the lower lid and place one drop without touching the eye with the bottle tip. Remove soft contact lenses before use and wait 15 minutes before putting them back. If you use other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between them.

Interactions

No important interactions with tablets are known because very little reaches the blood. Using it together with other glaucoma drops is common; leave at least 5 minutes between different drops. Tell your doctor about all eye products you use.

Contraindications

  • Allergy to Netarsudil or any ingredient of the drops (including the preservative).

Side Effects

The most common side effect is red eyes. Others include small bleeding spots on the white of the eye, eye pain or stinging when the drop goes in, blurred vision, watering, itching and small deposits on the cornea (the clear front of the eye), which usually do not affect sight. The combined product can also darken the iris and lengthen eyelashes.

Get urgent medical help if you have sudden loss or major change in vision, severe eye pain, or signs of a serious allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or eyelids or difficulty breathing.

Pregnancy and Lactation

There is little information on use in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Very little is absorbed into the body, but use it only if your doctor advises that the benefit outweighs any possible risk.

Precautions and Warnings

  • Do not touch the dropper tip to anything, to avoid infection.
  • Your vision may blur briefly after use; do not drive until it clears.
  • Keep regular eye check-ups so your eye pressure can be measured.
  • Not established for use in children.

Overdose

Using extra drops is unlikely to cause serious harm but may increase eye redness and irritation. Rinse the eye with clean water. If drops are swallowed, contact a doctor.

Therapeutic Class

Antiglaucoma agent, Rho kinase inhibitor eye drop.

Storage

Unopened bottles are usually kept in a refrigerator at 2 to 8°C, do not freeze. After opening, follow the pack instructions (it can usually be kept below 25°C for a limited time). Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of the reach of children.
