Indications
Pemirolast Potassium eye drops are used to prevent and relieve itching of the eyes caused by allergic conjunctivitis, for example seasonal allergy to pollen, dust or animal hair.
How It Works
Pemirolast is a mast cell stabiliser. Mast cells in the eye release histamine and other substances when they meet an allergen, causing itching, redness and watering. Pemirolast keeps these cells from releasing those substances, so the allergic reaction is reduced. It works best when used regularly.
Dosage and Administration
Adults and children aged 3 years and over: usually 1 to 2 drops in each affected eye four times a day, or as prescribed. Wash your hands, tilt your head back, pull down the lower lid and place the drop inside. Close the eye gently for a minute. Do not let the dropper tip touch the eye or any surface. If you use other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between them.
Interactions
No important interactions with other medicines are known, because very little reaches the blood. Separate it from other eye drops by at least 5 minutes.
Contraindications
Do not use if you are allergic to Pemirolast or any ingredient of the eye drops, including the preservative.
Side Effects
Possible effects include headache, cold-like symptoms, mild burning or stinging in the eye, dry eye, and a feeling of something in the eye.
Stop using it and get urgent medical help if you have eye pain, sudden change in vision, severe redness or swelling of the eyelids, or signs of allergy such as swelling of the face or difficulty breathing.
Pregnancy and Lactation
There is limited information in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Use only if your doctor advises that the benefit outweighs any possible risk.
