Indications
Qurs Muqavvi Khas is a classical Unani tablet (qurs means tablet, muqavvi means strengthening, khas means special). It is a multi herb formulation traditionally used as a general strengthening tonic for weakness and tiredness, and for male sexual weakness such as low stamina or low libido. Scientific evidence for these uses is limited, and it is not a proven treatment for erectile dysfunction or any other disease.
How It Works
In Unani theory, its ingredients are said to strengthen the vital organs (heart, brain and liver) and the body’s natural energy. The exact herbs and their amounts vary between manufacturers, so the effects depend on the specific product. Its effects have not been well studied in modern clinical trials.
Dosage and Administration
Take by mouth as directed on the label or by a registered Unani practitioner, usually with milk or water. Do not exceed the stated dose and do not use it for long periods without advice. Not for children.
Interactions
- Some tonic formulations contain stimulating or potent herbs; tell your doctor if you take medicines for heart disease, blood pressure, diabetes, depression or epilepsy.
- Do not combine with prescription medicines for erectile dysfunction (such as Sildenafil or Tadalafil) or with nitrates (such as Glyceryl Trinitrate or Isosorbide) without medical advice.
- Avoid alcohol while using it.
Contraindications
Do not use if allergic to any ingredient. Avoid if you have serious heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, epilepsy, or serious liver or kidney disease, unless a doctor advises it. Not for use by children, or in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Side Effects
Possible side effects include stomach upset, heartburn, headache, restlessness or difficulty sleeping.
Get urgent medical help if you have chest pain, a fast or irregular heartbeat, muscle stiffness or twitching, fits, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or signs of an allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or difficulty breathing.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as there is no safety information for this formulation.
Precautions and Warnings
- Weakness, tiredness and sexual problems can be signs of conditions such as diabetes, anaemia, heart disease, thyroid problems or depression; see a doctor for a check up.
- Buy only registered products from reliable sources; some unregistered sexual tonics have been found to contain hidden prescription drugs or heavy metals.
- Keep strictly to the labelled dose.
Overdose
Taking too much may cause nausea, vomiting, restlessness, palpitations or more serious effects depending on the ingredients. Get medical help straight away, especially if a child has taken it.
