Indications
Sharbat Jiryani is a Unani herbal syrup. In Unani medicine “jiryan” means the involuntary loss of semen, for example during sleep or with urine. This syrup is traditionally used for that complaint, for a feeling of burning or heat in the urinary passage, and as a tonic for weakness of the male reproductive system. Scientific evidence for these uses is limited, and it is not a proven treatment for any sexual or urinary disorder.
How It Works
The syrup contains a mixture of plant ingredients in a sugar base. In Unani theory these ingredients are cooling, soothing and astringent (tightening). Some contain mucilage, a gel like substance that may soothe irritated tissues. How the combination works in the body has not been properly studied.
Dosage and Administration
Take as directed on the label or by a registered Unani practitioner. Shake the bottle well and use the measuring cup provided. The syrup may be taken on its own or mixed with water. Do not take more than the recommended amount. If symptoms continue, see a doctor.
Interactions
No specific interactions are well documented. Because it contains sugar, it may affect blood sugar control in people taking Insulin, Metformin or other diabetes medicines. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines and herbal products you use.
Contraindications
- Allergy to any of the ingredients listed on the pack
- Poorly controlled diabetes, unless a doctor advises it
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Children
Side Effects
Side effects are not well recorded. Some people may have stomach discomfort, loose stools, nausea or allergic skin reactions.
Get urgent medical help if you notice swelling of the face, lips or throat, difficulty breathing, a widespread rash, blood in the urine or semen, or pain or burning when passing urine together with fever or back pain.
Pregnancy and Lactation
This product is intended for men. Its safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established, so it should not be used during these times.
Precautions and Warnings
Occasional night time emission of semen is normal, especially in young men, and is not a disease. Burning when passing urine, discharge from the penis or cloudy urine may be due to an infection or a prostate problem and needs a doctor’s check. The syrup contains sugar, so people with diabetes should take advice before use and check their blood sugar.
Overdose
Taking too much is unlikely to be serious but may cause stomach upset and raise blood sugar. If someone has taken much more than the recommended amount, or a child has swallowed a large amount, contact a doctor or go to the nearest hospital and take the bottle with you.
