Indications
White Damar is a natural resin obtained from the Vateria indica tree (also called white dammar or Indian copal). In Unani and Ayurvedic medicine it is used as an ingredient of compound preparations. It is traditionally used as an astringent for loose stools and dysentery, for bleeding piles, and in ointments and plasters for wounds, joint pain and skin complaints. Scientific evidence for these uses is limited.
How It Works
The resin contains plant substances that are thought to have astringent (tightening), mild antiseptic and soothing effects. Traditionally these properties are believed to reduce bleeding and secretions and to help protect irritated tissue.
Dosage and Administration
Use only as directed on the label or by a registered practitioner, as part of a properly prepared product. External products are applied to the affected area as directed. Do not use the raw resin by mouth.
Interactions
- No well studied drug interactions are known.
- Astringent herbal products may reduce the absorption of other oral medicines; keep a gap of about 2 hours.
- Tell your doctor about all herbal products you use.
Contraindications
