Indications

Ambar Momiyaee is a traditional Unani ingredient combining ambergris (ambar, a waxy substance from the sperm whale) and momiyaee (mumiyai, also called shilajit, a resin-like mineral substance from mountain rocks). It is found in Unani tonics for men. It is traditionally used to improve general strength, stamina and sexual vigour, and for weakness of the nerves. Scientific evidence for these uses is limited, and it is not a proven treatment for erectile dysfunction or infertility.

How It Works

In Unani tradition it is described as a warming, strengthening tonic for the heart, brain and nerves. Shilajit contains fulvic acid and minerals, and ambergris contains aromatic compounds. How these act in the body is not well understood.

Dosage and Administration

Take as directed on the label or by a registered Unani practitioner. Do not take more than the recommended amount.

Interactions

Shilajit may lower blood sugar and blood pressure slightly, so take care with medicines for diabetes or high blood pressure. Do not combine with other sexual-enhancement products or with Sildenafil, Tadalafil or nitrate medicines (such as Glyceryl Trinitrate) without asking a doctor. Tell your doctor about any herbal products you use.

Contraindications

• Allergy to any ingredient.
• Children.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• People with serious heart disease, uncontrolled blood pressure, kidney stones or gout should avoid it unless a doctor agrees.

Side Effects

Possible effects include a feeling of heat, stomach upset, headache, dizziness and allergic skin reactions. Unprocessed or poorly purified shilajit may contain heavy metals or fungal contamination.

Get urgent medical help if you have chest pain, a fast or irregular heartbeat, fainting, difficulty breathing or swelling of the face or throat.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Not recommended. Safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established.

Precautions and Warnings

• Problems with erections can be an early sign of diabetes, heart disease or hormone problems. See a doctor rather than relying only on tonics.
• Buy only from licensed manufacturers, since some unregistered sexual tonics have been found to contain hidden prescription drugs.
• Not a substitute for prescribed treatment.

Overdose

Taking too much may cause stomach upset, restlessness or dizziness. If a large amount has been taken, or a child has swallowed it, contact a doctor.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep the container tightly closed and out of the reach of children.
