Tabkheer
Indications
Tabkheer is a Unani herbal preparation. In Unani medicine, "tabkheer" describes gas and vapours thought to rise from the stomach, causing bloating, belching, a heavy feeling after meals, sour burps and sometimes headache. This preparation is traditionally used to ease gas, bloating, acidity and indigestion. Scientific evidence for these uses is limited, and it is not a replacement for medical care of ulcers, reflux disease or other stomach conditions.
How It Works
Unani digestive preparations usually combine herbs that are traditionally believed to settle the stomach, reduce gas (carminative action) and support digestion. The exact ingredients and amounts vary by manufacturer, so check the label of your pack. How well these herbs work has not been well tested in modern clinical studies.
Dosage and Administration
Take as directed on the label or by a registered Unani practitioner. It is usually taken after meals. Do not take more than the recommended amount. If symptoms do not improve within one to two weeks, see a doctor.
Interactions
Herbal preparations can interact with other medicines. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you take, especially blood thinners such as Warfarin, diabetes medicines, and other medicines for acidity. Keep a gap of about two hours between this preparation and other oral medicines unless advised otherwise.
