Habbe Bawaseer Badi
Indications
Habbe Bawaseer Badi is a Unani compound pill made from a mixture of herbs (check the label for the exact ingredients). In Unani medicine, "Bawaseer Badi" means non bleeding (dry or blind) piles. These pills are traditionally used to ease the pain, itching, swelling and discomfort of non bleeding piles and the constipation that often comes with them. Scientific evidence for this use is limited.
How It Works
The herbs in such formulas are traditionally believed to soften stools, reduce swelling and inflammation of the swollen veins around the anus, and relieve pain. The exact effect depends on the ingredients in the product.
Dosage and Administration
Take as directed on the label or by a registered Unani practitioner, usually with water after meals. Do not exceed the label amount. Drink plenty of water and eat a diet rich in fibre while using it.
Interactions
- Herbal laxative ingredients may reduce the absorption of other medicines taken at the same time; keep a gap of about 2 hours.
- Some herbs used for piles can increase bleeding risk with Warfarin, Aspirin or Clopidogrel; ask your doctor if you take blood thinners.
- Tell your doctor about all herbal products you use.
Contraindications
- Known allergy to any ingredient.
- Diarrhoea, inflammatory bowel disease or intestinal blockage.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding, unless advised by a doctor.
- Children, unless advised by a practitioner.
Side Effects
Mild stomach upset, loose stools or a feeling of heat in the stomach can occur.
Get urgent medical help if you have heavy bleeding from the rectum, black or tarry stools, severe pain around the anus with fever, a hard very painful lump that does not settle, or signs of a serious allergic reaction.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Piles are common in pregnancy, but many herbal piles preparations contain ingredients that may stimulate the bowel or womb. Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding without your doctor's advice.
Precautions and Warnings
- Any bleeding from the rectum, a change in bowel habit or weight loss should be checked by a doctor, as symptoms of piles can also be caused by more serious conditions.
- Avoid straining, and do not sit on the toilet for long periods.
- Stop use and see a doctor if symptoms do not improve within 1 to 2 weeks.
Overdose
Taking too much may cause diarrhoea and stomach cramps. Seek medical advice if a large amount has been taken.
