Urea, SyriCalm, Shea Butter, Oil Complex Omega Plus, Hydrolyzed Silk & Glycine Soja Oil
Indications
This is a moisturising and protective skin cream that combines Urea with Shea butter, a blend of plant oils rich in omega fatty acids (including soybean oil), hydrolysed silk, glycine and a soothing complex. It is used for very dry, rough, thickened, cracked or itchy skin, especially on the hands and feet. Creams of this type are also used to care for the dry, sore and peeling skin of the palms and soles that some cancer medicines cause (hand foot syndrome), alongside the treatment advised by the cancer team.
How It Works
Urea draws water into the outer layer of skin and loosens hard, scaly skin so it becomes softer and smoother. Shea butter and the plant oils form a light film that reduces water loss and helps repair the skin barrier. Hydrolysed silk and glycine help hold moisture, and the soothing ingredients may calm itching and discomfort.
Dosage and Administration
For external use on the skin only. Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin 2 to 3 times a day, or as directed on the label or by your doctor, and massage in gently. For hand foot care during cancer treatment, it is usually started early and used regularly every day, including after washing. Wash hands after use unless the hands are being treated.
Interactions
Urea can increase how much of other skin medicines, such as steroid creams, passes into the skin. Leave some time between this cream and other products on the same area, and ask your doctor or pharmacist if you use prescribed skin treatments. No interactions with medicines taken by mouth are expected.
Contraindications
- Allergy to any ingredient, including soy, shea or other plant oils.
- Open wounds, raw or bleeding skin, or infected skin, unless a doctor advises it.
Side Effects
It is usually well tolerated. Some people feel brief stinging, burning or redness, especially on cracked or irritated skin, because of the Urea. Rarely, an allergic skin rash can occur.
Get urgent medical help if you develop swelling of the face, lips or throat, difficulty breathing or a widespread rash. During cancer treatment, contact your cancer team quickly if the hands or feet develop blisters, open sores, severe pain or signs of infection.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Very little of these ingredients is absorbed through the skin, and such creams are generally considered suitable in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Do not apply to the nipple area just before feeding. Ask your doctor if unsure.
Precautions and Warnings
For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other mucous membranes; rinse with water if contact occurs. Do not use on broken or infected skin without medical advice. Test on a small area first if you have sensitive skin or soy allergy. Stop using if irritation persists. This cream supports skin care but does not replace medical treatment.
Overdose
Overdose is not expected with use on the skin. If a large amount is swallowed, rinse the mouth and seek medical advice.
Therapeutic Class
Emollient and keratolytic moisturiser (skin care preparation)
