About the Medicine

Aqua, Glycerin, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Carbomer, Biolin, Tocopheryl Acetate

Indications

This is a light, water based skin gel containing purified water (aqua), Glycerin, a mild solubiliser (PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil), Carbomer as the gelling agent, a soothing prebiotic complex (Biolin) and vitamin E (tocopheryl acetate). It is used to soothe, cool and moisturise dry, sensitive, irritated or reddened skin. Gels of this type are also used in skin care during radiotherapy, when the treated skin can become dry, red and sore, but only as advised by the radiotherapy team.

How It Works

Water and Glycerin hydrate the outer layer of skin and help it hold moisture. Carbomer gives a cooling, non greasy gel that spreads easily. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps protect skin from damage and supports the skin barrier. The prebiotic complex is included to support the skin's natural balance and reduce irritation. The product does not contain a medicine and works by caring for the skin surface.

Dosage and Administration

For external use on the skin only. Apply a thin layer gently, without rubbing hard, to clean skin 2 to 3 times a day, or as directed on the label or by your doctor. During radiotherapy, follow the instructions of the radiotherapy team, who will usually advise when to apply it and not to apply it just before a treatment session.

Interactions

No interactions with medicines taken by mouth are expected. If you use other creams or prescribed skin medicines on the same area, ask your doctor or pharmacist how to space them.

Contraindications

  • Allergy to any ingredient of the gel, including castor oil derivatives or vitamin E.
  • Open wounds, blistered or infected skin, unless a doctor advises it.

Side Effects

It is usually well tolerated. Rarely, mild stinging, redness or an allergic skin rash may occur.

Get urgent medical help if you have swelling of the face, lips or throat, difficulty breathing or a widespread rash. During radiotherapy, tell your treatment team quickly if the skin blisters, peels, weeps, bleeds or becomes very painful.

Pregnancy and Lactation

The ingredients are used on the skin and very little is absorbed, so such gels are generally considered suitable in pregnancy and breastfeeding. Do not apply to the nipple area just before feeding. Ask your doctor if unsure.

Precautions and Warnings

For external use only. Avoid the eyes and mouth. Do not use on broken skin without medical advice. Stop using it if irritation develops. It is a skin care product and does not treat skin disease or radiation injury on its own; follow medical advice for any skin problem.

Overdose

Overdose is not expected with use on the skin. If a large amount is swallowed, rinse the mouth and seek medical advice.
