Jatamangsi Arka
Indications
Jatamangsi Arka is an Ayurvedic liquid distilled from the root and rhizome of Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi), a plant of the Himalayas. It is traditionally used to calm the mind, to ease anxiety, restlessness and mental tension, to help with poor sleep, and as a general nerve tonic. Scientific evidence for these uses is limited, and it should not replace treatment for anxiety disorders, depression or high blood pressure.
How It Works
Jatamansi root contains aromatic oils and compounds such as jatamansone that, in laboratory and animal studies, show a mild calming (sedative) effect on the nervous system. An arka is a distillate, so it mainly carries the plant's volatile, aromatic parts. How well this works in people has not been properly proven.
Dosage and Administration
Take as directed on the label or by a registered Ayurvedic practitioner. It is taken by mouth, often diluted with water. Do not take more than the recommended amount.
