Nymphaea Nouchali
Indications
Nymphaea nouchali is the blue water lily (also known in Unani as Nilofar), the national flower of Bangladesh. Its flowers are used in Unani and Ayurvedic syrups and preparations traditionally given as a cooling remedy for fever and feelings of internal heat, for restlessness and poor sleep, for burning on passing urine, for thirst, and as a heart and brain tonic. Scientific evidence for these uses is limited.
How It Works
In Unani tradition the flower has a cold and moist temperament that soothes heat and calms the mind. Laboratory studies show that it contains flavonoids and other antioxidant compounds and may have mild calming and anti inflammatory effects, but these have not been confirmed in people.
