Hyper-Pigmented Skin [PIGMENTBIO]
Indications
This is a skin-care range for hyperpigmented skin, meaning dark spots and uneven skin tone. It typically includes a concentrated vitamin C serum, a daily broad spectrum sunscreen (SPF 50+) and a gentle foaming cleanser. It is used to help fade dark spots caused by sun exposure, acne marks (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation), age spots and melasma, and to prevent new spots from forming. It is a cosmetic product, not a medicine.
How It Works
Dark patches form when skin cells called melanocytes make too much melanin pigment, often triggered by sunlight, hormones or inflammation. Ingredients such as vitamin C and other brightening agents help reduce melanin production and act as antioxidants, while the sunscreen blocks the UV light that triggers new pigment. The cleanser removes dirt and oil without stripping the skin, preparing it for the other products. Results build slowly over several weeks to months.
Dosage and Administration
Use as directed on each product label. A typical routine:
- Morning: wash with the cleanser, apply a few drops of the vitamin C serum to the face, then apply sunscreen generously as the last step, about 15 minutes before going out, and reapply every 2 to 3 hours outdoors.
- Evening: cleanse and apply the serum or treatment product as directed.
- Do a patch test on a small area for 24 hours before first use.
Interactions
These products do not interact with medicines taken by mouth. Using several strong skin products together, such as retinoids, AHA or BHA acids or benzoyl peroxide, at the same time as the serum may increase irritation; alternate them or follow a dermatologist's advice. Some medicines, such as Doxycycline or Isotretinoin, make the skin more sensitive to sun, so sunscreen is especially important.
Contraindications
Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredient, or on broken, infected, sunburnt or severely inflamed skin.
Side Effects
Mild tingling, redness, dryness or itching may occur, especially when starting the serum. Rarely, allergic contact dermatitis or acne flares can develop.
Stop using the products and get urgent medical help if you develop swelling of the face, eyes or lips, difficulty breathing, blistering, or a severe spreading rash.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Vitamin C serums, gentle cleansers and sunscreens are generally considered suitable during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Melasma often worsens in pregnancy, so daily sunscreen is especially helpful. Check the full ingredient list with a doctor or pharmacist, and avoid products containing retinoids or hydroquinone unless a doctor advises.
Precautions and Warnings
- For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes; rinse with water if this happens.
- Daily sun protection is essential; without it, dark spots usually return.
- See a dermatologist if a dark spot changes in size, shape or colour, bleeds or itches, as this needs checking.
- Results take time; stop if irritation persists.
Overdose
Using more than directed does not work faster and may irritate the skin. If swallowed in a significant amount, seek medical advice.
Therapeutic Class
Cosmetic skin-care: depigmenting (brightening) and photoprotective products.
Storage
Store below 30°C, away from direct sunlight and heat, with caps tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Vitamin C serums can darken when exposed to air and light; do not use if the colour has changed markedly.
