About the Medicine

Habbe Bawaseer Damavi

Indications

Habbe Bawaseer Damavi is a Unani herbal pill. Its name means pills for bleeding piles. It is traditionally used to reduce bleeding, pain, itching and swelling from internal and external haemorrhoids (piles, which are swollen veins in and around the back passage). It contains a mixture of herbs and natural substances with astringent (tightening) properties. Scientific evidence for its effect is limited, and it does not replace medical assessment of rectal bleeding.

How It Works

Unani tradition holds that its astringent and blood stopping ingredients tighten the small blood vessels of piles, reduce bleeding and settle inflammation. Some formulations also help soften stools, which reduces straining. These effects have not been well tested in clinical studies.

Dosage and Administration

Take as directed on the label or by a registered Unani practitioner, usually swallowed with water. Drink plenty of fluids, eat a high fibre diet (fruit, vegetables, whole grains) and avoid straining on the toilet; these measures matter as much as the medicine.

Interactions

No specific interactions are well documented. As a precaution, tell your doctor if you take blood thinners such as Warfarin, Clopidogrel or Aspirin, since bleeding needs closer review, and about any other medicines or herbal products.

Contraindications

  • Allergy to any ingredient.
  • Pregnancy, unless a doctor advises it.
  • Children, unless advised by a practitioner.

Side Effects

It is usually well tolerated. Some people may have mild stomach upset, nausea or constipation.

Get urgent medical help if you have heavy rectal bleeding, passing clots, dizziness or fainting, severe pain in the back passage, signs of a serious allergic reaction (swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, widespread rash), or black, tarry stools.

Pregnancy and Lactation

Piles are common in pregnancy, but the safety of this herbal product in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been studied. Do not use it without your doctor's advice; diet changes and doctor recommended treatments are preferred.

Precautions and Warnings

  • Rectal bleeding can be caused by serious conditions such as bowel cancer or inflammatory bowel disease. See a doctor, especially if you are over 40, have weight loss, a change in bowel habit or anaemia.
  • If symptoms do not improve within one to two weeks, seek medical review.

Overdose

Taking too much may cause stomach upset, nausea or constipation. Seek medical advice if a large amount has been taken, especially by a child.

Therapeutic Class

Unani herbal preparation (anti haemorrhoidal).
