About the Medicine

Multivitamins & Multiminerals [a-Z Prenatal Preparation]

Indications

This A to Z prenatal preparation is a broad multivitamin and multimineral supplement for women before conception, during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. It usually supplies Folic Acid, Iron, Iodine, Zinc, Calcium, Vitamin D and the B vitamins, along with other vitamins and trace minerals, to help prevent shortfalls when nutritional needs are higher. It is also used when diet alone may not meet these needs.

How It Works

The ingredients top up nutrients that the body uses faster in pregnancy. Folic Acid supports normal development of the baby's nervous system, Iron supports red blood cell production, Iodine supports thyroid function and the baby's brain, and Vitamin D with Calcium helps build bones and teeth. B vitamins, Vitamin C, Vitamin E and minerals such as Zinc, Copper and Selenium support energy production, immunity and cell growth.

Dosage and Administration

Take one tablet or capsule a day with a meal and a glass of water, or as directed on the label or by your doctor. Start ideally before pregnancy and continue during pregnancy and breastfeeding as advised. Swallow whole. If a dose is missed, take the next one at the usual time without doubling.

Interactions

The minerals in this product can bind to some medicines and reduce their effect. Keep a gap of 2 to 4 hours between it and Levothyroxine, antibiotics such as Ciprofloxacin, Levofloxacin or Doxycycline, and antacids. Tea, coffee and milk taken with the dose may reduce iron uptake. Do not combine with other products containing Vitamin A, Vitamin D or iron unless a doctor advises it.

Contraindications

Not for people allergic to any ingredient, or those with iron overload, high blood calcium, or excess Vitamin A or Vitamin D. Ask a doctor first if you have kidney disease or a blood disorder.

Side Effects

Side effects are usually mild and include:

  • Nausea, especially if taken on an empty stomach
  • Constipation, bloating or stomach discomfort
  • Dark stools due to iron, which is harmless
  • A metallic taste

Get urgent medical help for signs of a serious allergic reaction such as swelling of the face, lips or throat, hives or difficulty breathing.

Pregnancy and Lactation

This supplement is intended for pregnancy and breastfeeding. Stay within the recommended dose, as excess Vitamin A is harmful to the unborn baby, and let your doctor know you are taking it so your care can be planned.

Precautions and Warnings

Do not take extra multivitamins at the same time. If you have anaemia, a thyroid condition, or follow a restricted diet, your doctor may need to check your levels. Keep iron-containing tablets away from children, as they can cause serious poisoning.

Overdose

Taking too much can cause stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea, and long-term excess Vitamin A or D can be harmful. If a child swallows these tablets, treat it as an emergency and seek medical care at once.

Therapeutic Class

Prenatal multivitamin and multimineral supplement.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and out of the reach of children.
