Hayateen Murakkab
Indications
Hayateen Murakkab is a Unani compound preparation (murakkab means compound) made from a blend of herbs and nourishing ingredients, often with added vitamins and minerals. It is traditionally used as a general tonic for weakness, tiredness, poor appetite and recovery after illness, and to support overall vitality. Scientific evidence for these uses is limited, and it does not replace treatment of the cause of weakness, such as anaemia or infection.
How It Works
The herbal ingredients are described in Unani medicine as strengthening the main organs and improving digestion. Any added vitamins and minerals help correct mild dietary shortfalls. How the full combination works has not been well studied.
Dosage and Administration
Take it as directed on the label or by a registered Unani practitioner, usually after meals. Do not take more than the recommended amount, and do not combine it with other multivitamin products unless advised.
Interactions
If the product contains vitamins and minerals, it may interact with some medicines: iron, calcium and zinc can reduce absorption of antibiotics such as Ciprofloxacin and Doxycycline and of the thyroid medicine Levothyroxine, so take these a few hours apart. Vitamin K can reduce the effect of Warfarin. Tell your doctor about all supplements you use.
Contraindications
Do not use it if you are allergic to any ingredient. People with conditions caused by iron overload, or with high blood calcium, should not use products containing these minerals unless a doctor advises it.
Side Effects
It is usually well tolerated. Some people may have nausea, stomach upset, constipation or dark stools (if iron is present). Allergic reactions are rare.
Get urgent medical help if you have swelling of the face, lips or throat, difficulty breathing or a severe rash.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Ask a doctor before using it during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Pregnant women need specific vitamin amounts, and some herbs are not suitable during pregnancy.
Precautions and Warnings
Long-lasting weakness, weight loss or poor appetite can be signs of an illness that needs a doctor's attention. Liquid tonics may contain sugar, so people with diabetes should check the label.
Overdose
Taking too much can cause stomach upset. Products containing iron can be dangerous to young children if swallowed in large amounts: go to a hospital immediately.
Therapeutic Class
