Sharbat Atfal
Indications
Sharbat Atfal is a Unani herbal syrup made for children (atfal means children). It is traditionally used for common digestive complaints in infants and young children, such as wind (gas), colic, indigestion, loss of appetite, mild diarrhoea and tummy upset during teething. Scientific evidence for these traditional uses is limited.
How It Works
The syrup usually contains carminative herbs such as Fennel and Aniseed, which are traditionally used to relax the bowel and help release trapped gas, along with other digestive herbs. The exact effect depends on the combination of herbs in each product.
Dosage and Administration
Give only as directed on the label or by a registered Unani practitioner, using the measuring cup or spoon provided. The dose depends on the child's age. Do not give more often than the label says. Shake the bottle well before use.
Interactions
No important interactions are known. Tell the doctor or pharmacist about any other medicines or herbal products the child is taking.
