Habb-E Suzak
Indications
Habb-e Suzak is a Unani pill (habb means pill) made from a mixture of herbs and, in some recipes, minerals. Suzak is the traditional Unani name for burning and discharge from the urinary passage. It is traditionally used to ease burning or pain when passing urine, urethral irritation and discharge, and to soothe the urinary tract. Scientific evidence for these uses is limited. It is not a cure for sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhoea or for bacterial urinary infections, which need proper testing and antibiotics.
How It Works
The herbs in this preparation are described in Unani medicine as cooling, soothing and mildly diuretic, meaning they may increase urine flow and help flush the urinary passage. Some plant ingredients used in such pills have mild antibacterial or anti-inflammatory effects in laboratory studies. How the full combination works in people has not been studied.
Dosage and Administration
Take it only as directed on the label or by a registered Unani practitioner, with plenty of water. Do not exceed the stated amount.
Interactions
No well documented interactions are known. Because it may increase urine flow, take care if you use diuretic (water) tablets or Lithium. Tell your doctor about this product if you are prescribed antibiotics for a urinary or sexual infection, and do not use it instead of them.
Contraindications
Do not use it if you are allergic to any ingredient. Not for children. Avoid it in severe kidney disease unless a doctor advises it.
Side Effects
It is usually well tolerated. Possible effects include stomach upset, nausea and increased urination. Allergic reactions are rare.
Get urgent medical help if you have fever with back or side pain, blood in the urine, inability to pass urine, pus-like discharge with pain in the testicles or lower belly, or swelling of the face, lips or throat or difficulty breathing.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established. Do not use it during these times. Pregnant women with urinary symptoms should see a doctor promptly.
Precautions and Warnings
Burning urine and urethral discharge are often caused by infections, including sexually transmitted infections, which can lead to infertility and spread to partners if not treated with the right antibiotics. See a doctor for testing, and inform sexual partners if an infection is found. Some traditional mineral-containing pills may contain heavy metals, so buy only registered products from reliable sources.
Overdose
Taking too much may cause stomach upset. If a large amount has been taken, or a child has swallowed it, contact a doctor or the nearest hospital.
Therapeutic Class
