Yohimbine Hydrochloride
Indications
Yohimbine Hydrochloride comes from the bark of an African tree. It has been used to help with erectile dysfunction (difficulty getting or keeping an erection), especially when the cause is not purely physical, and to support low sexual desire in men. Evidence for its benefit is modest, and newer medicines are usually preferred. It should be used only on a doctor's advice.
How It Works
Yohimbine blocks alpha-2 adrenergic receptors in the nervous system. This increases the release of noradrenaline, a chemical messenger, which can improve blood flow into the penis and reduce the outflow of blood, helping an erection. It also acts on the brain, which may increase arousal but can also cause anxiety and a faster heartbeat.
Dosage and Administration
Take as prescribed by your doctor. A commonly used adult dose is 5.4 mg up to three times daily by mouth. It may take 2 to 3 weeks to see an effect. Do not take more than prescribed and do not combine with other sexual enhancement products.
Interactions
- Antidepressants such as Amitriptyline, Clomipramine, MAO inhibitors and some others can raise blood pressure or cause agitation when taken with Yohimbine.
- It can weaken the effect of blood pressure medicines such as Clonidine and Methyldopa.
