Indications

This is a multivitamin and multimineral supplement made for teenage boys. It helps meet the extra needs for vitamins and minerals during the growth spurt of adolescence, and supports normal energy, bone growth, muscle development, immunity and concentration. It is useful when the diet is poor or irregular, during sports and exams, during recovery from illness, or when a doctor advises a supplement.

How It Works

The tablet provides a balanced range of vitamins (such as vitamins A, B group, C, D and E) and minerals (such as zinc, iron, calcium, magnesium and iodine). These act as building blocks and helpers for many body processes: B vitamins help release energy from food, vitamin D and calcium build bones, iron makes red blood cells, zinc supports growth and immunity and helps skin heal.

Dosage and Administration

Usually 1 tablet a day after a meal, with a glass of water, or as directed on the label or by a doctor. Do not take more than the recommended dose. A supplement does not replace a healthy, varied diet.

Interactions

  • Iron, calcium, zinc and magnesium can reduce the absorption of some antibiotics such as Ciprofloxacin, Doxycycline and Tetracycline, and of Levothyroxine; take these at least 2 hours apart
  • Avoid taking other vitamin or mineral supplements at the same time unless advised, to prevent too high a dose (especially vitamin A, vitamin D and iron)
  • Tea and coffee taken with the tablet can reduce iron absorption

Contraindications

  • Allergy to any ingredient
  • Iron overload conditions such as haemochromatosis, or anaemia not caused by iron deficiency unless a doctor advises
  • High blood calcium or vitamin D excess

Side Effects

Most people have no problems. Possible effects include mild stomach upset, nausea, constipation or diarrhoea, dark stools (from iron) and bright yellow urine (from vitamin B2, harmless). Allergic reactions are rare.

Get urgent medical help for swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, or if a large number of tablets has been swallowed, especially by a young child.

Pregnancy and Lactation

This product is designed for teenage boys and is not intended for pregnancy or breastfeeding; women in these situations should use a supplement made for them on medical advice.

Precautions and Warnings

Tell the doctor about any kidney or liver disease or long-term medicines before use. Do not exceed the dose, because some vitamins and minerals are harmful in large amounts. Keep tablets away from small children; iron overdose is dangerous for them.

Overdose

Taking many tablets at once can cause vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhoea, and iron or vitamin A or D poisoning. Seek medical help at once and take the pack with you.

Therapeutic Class

Multivitamin and multimineral supplement.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light, with the cap tightly closed, and out of the reach of children.
