Indications
This is a multivitamin and multimineral supplement made for teenage boys. It helps meet the extra nutrient needs of the teenage growth spurt, supports energy, bone and muscle growth, and helps fill gaps when the diet is poor or irregular, or during sports and exams.
How It Works
It supplies a balanced mix of vitamins (such as A, B group, C, D and E) and minerals (such as Zinc, Iron, Calcium and Magnesium). B vitamins help turn food into energy, Vitamin D and Calcium build bones, Zinc supports growth, skin and immunity, and Iron helps make red blood cells. The formula is matched to the usual needs of growing boys.
Dosage and Administration
Usually one tablet a day after a meal with water, or as directed on the label or by a doctor. Do not take more than the recommended amount. It is a supplement and does not replace a balanced diet.
Interactions
- Iron, Calcium and Zinc can reduce the absorption of some antibiotics (Tetracyclines such as Doxycycline, and Quinolones such as Ciprofloxacin) and of Levothyroxine; take these at least 2 to 4 hours apart.
- Avoid taking other vitamin or mineral products at the same time unless a doctor advises, to prevent taking too much.
- Any Vitamin K content may affect Warfarin.
Contraindications
- Allergy to any ingredient.
- Conditions with iron overload (such as haemochromatosis) or high blood calcium.
- Not intended for young children.
Side Effects
It is usually well tolerated. Some people have mild stomach upset, nausea, constipation or dark stools (from iron), and urine may turn bright yellow (from vitamin B2), which is harmless.
Get urgent medical help if there is a rash with swelling of the face or lips, difficulty breathing, or severe vomiting or stomach pain.
Pregnancy and Lactation
This product is designed for teenage boys and is not meant for use in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use a supplement made for that time, as advised by a doctor.
Precautions and Warnings
- Keep to the stated dose; vitamins A and D and iron can build up if overused.
- Speak to a doctor if there is kidney disease, a long-term illness or regular medicine use.
- Supplements cannot replace healthy food, sleep and exercise.
Overdose
Taking many tablets at once can cause stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea; iron overdose can be serious. Seek medical help straight away if a large amount is swallowed, especially by a young child.
