Indications
This is a multivitamin and multimineral supplement made for teenage boys. It helps fill gaps in the diet during the teenage growth spurt, when needs for nutrients such as Calcium, Vitamin D, Iron, Zinc, Magnesium and B vitamins rise. It is used when diet is poor or irregular, during heavy study or sports, during recovery from illness, and to support normal growth, energy and immunity. It does not replace a balanced diet.
How It Works
Each vitamin and mineral has its own role. B vitamins help turn food into energy; Vitamin D and Calcium support bone growth; Iron is needed to make red blood cells; Zinc supports growth, immunity and skin health; Vitamins A, C and E act as antioxidants and support the immune system. Providing them together helps prevent mild deficiencies.
Dosage and Administration
Usually 1 tablet a day after a meal with a glass of water, or as directed on the label or by a doctor. Do not take more than the recommended amount and do not combine with other multivitamin products unless advised.
Interactions
- Calcium, Iron, Zinc and Magnesium can reduce absorption of some antibiotics (Tetracyclines, Ciprofloxacin and similar) and Levothyroxine; take them at least 2 to 4 hours apart.
- Tea, coffee and milk taken at the same time may reduce iron absorption.
- Tell the doctor about any other supplements or medicines.
Contraindications
- Allergy to any ingredient
- Conditions with iron overload (such as haemochromatosis or frequent blood transfusions in thalassaemia) unless a doctor advises it
- High blood calcium or high Vitamin A or D levels
Side Effects
- Stomach upset, nausea or constipation, mainly from iron
- Dark stools (harmless, due to iron)
- Bright yellow urine (harmless, due to vitamin B2)
Get urgent medical help if a severe allergic reaction occurs (swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing), or if a large number of tablets are swallowed, especially by a young child.
Pregnancy and Lactation
This product is formulated for teenage boys. It is not intended for pregnancy or breastfeeding; a prenatal supplement should be used instead.
Precautions and Warnings
- Do not exceed the stated dose; Vitamins A and D and Iron can build up and cause harm.
- If there is anaemia, poor growth or a medical condition, see a doctor rather than relying on a supplement.
- Keep out of reach of younger children: iron-containing tablets are a common cause of serious poisoning in small children.
Overdose
Swallowing many tablets can cause vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea and, with iron, serious poisoning. Seek emergency medical help straight away and take the pack with you.
Therapeutic Class
