Indications

This is a multivitamin and multimineral supplement made for teenage girls. It helps meet the extra nutrient needs of the teenage years, including the higher need for Iron once periods start, and supports energy, healthy bones, skin, hair and immunity when the diet falls short.

How It Works

It supplies a balanced mix of vitamins (such as A, the B group including Folic Acid, C, D and E) and minerals (such as Iron, Calcium, Zinc and Magnesium). Iron and Folic Acid help make healthy red blood cells and replace iron lost in monthly bleeding, Calcium and Vitamin D build strong bones during growth, and B vitamins help release energy from food.

Dosage and Administration

Usually one tablet a day after a meal with water, or as directed on the label or by a doctor. Do not take more than the recommended amount. It is a supplement and does not replace a balanced diet.

Interactions

  • Iron, Calcium and Zinc can reduce the absorption of some antibiotics (Tetracyclines such as Doxycycline, and Quinolones such as Ciprofloxacin) and of Levothyroxine; take these at least 2 to 4 hours apart.
  • Tea, coffee and antacids taken at the same time can reduce iron absorption.
  • Avoid taking other vitamin or iron products at the same time unless a doctor advises.

Contraindications

  • Allergy to any ingredient.
  • Conditions with iron overload (such as haemochromatosis, or thalassaemia needing frequent transfusions) unless a doctor advises, or high blood calcium.
  • Not intended for young children.

Side Effects

It is usually well tolerated. Some people have mild stomach upset, nausea, constipation or dark stools (from iron), and urine may turn bright yellow (from vitamin B2), which is harmless.

Get urgent medical help if there is a rash with swelling of the face or lips, difficulty breathing, or severe vomiting or stomach pain.

Pregnancy and Lactation

This product is designed for teenage girls. If pregnancy occurs, or during breastfeeding, a doctor should advise on a supplement made for that time, as needs and safe limits (for example for Vitamin A) are different.

Precautions and Warnings

  • Keep to the stated dose; vitamins A and D and iron can build up if overused.
  • Very heavy periods, tiredness or paleness should be checked by a doctor, as anaemia may need proper treatment.
  • Speak to a doctor if there is a long-term illness or regular medicine use.

Overdose

Taking many tablets at once can cause stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea; iron overdose can be serious. Seek medical help straight away if a large amount is swallowed, especially by a young child.

Therapeutic Class

Multivitamin and multimineral supplement.

Storage

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light, with the lid tightly closed. Keep out of the reach of children.
