Multivitamin & Multimineral [a-Z Gold Preparation]
Indications
This is a complete "A to Z" multivitamin and multimineral supplement. It is used to prevent or correct low levels of vitamins and minerals caused by a poor or restricted diet, illness, recovery after surgery, old age, heavy physical work or stress. It is also used as general nutritional support when the diet does not meet the body's needs.
How It Works
It supplies vitamins (such as A, B group, C, D, E and K) and minerals (such as iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium and iodine) that the body needs in small amounts. These help make energy from food, build blood, keep bones, skin, nerves and the immune system healthy, and support normal growth and repair.
Dosage and Administration
Adults: usually 1 tablet a day, or as directed on the pack or by the doctor. Take it after a meal with a glass of water. Do not take more than the recommended dose. Children should only take a product made for their age.
Interactions
The iron, calcium, magnesium and zinc in this product can reduce the absorption of some antibiotics (Doxycycline, Tetracycline, Ciprofloxacin, Levofloxacin) and of Levothyroxine. Keep a gap of at least 2 to 4 hours between them. Vitamin K can reduce the effect of Warfarin. Avoid taking other vitamin or mineral supplements at the same time unless a doctor advises, to prevent taking too much of some ingredients.
Contraindications
Allergy to any ingredient; high blood calcium; iron overload conditions (such as haemochromatosis); and high levels of vitamin A or D already in the body.
Side Effects
Usually well tolerated. Some people get nausea, stomach upset, constipation or loose stools. The iron may turn stools dark, and B vitamins may make urine bright yellow; both are harmless. Get urgent medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing or a widespread rash.
Pregnancy and Lactation
Pregnant women should use a vitamin product made for pregnancy, as advised by their doctor, because high amounts of vitamin A can harm the unborn baby. During breastfeeding, a standard daily dose is generally considered acceptable; ask your doctor.
Precautions and Warnings
Supplements do not replace a balanced diet. Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease or a blood disorder. Smokers should avoid long-term use of products with high beta-carotene. Keep out of reach of children, because iron tablets can poison young children.
Overdose
Taking several tablets at once, especially by a child, can cause iron poisoning with vomiting, stomach pain and diarrhoea, and can be serious. Seek urgent medical help. Long-term high doses can lead to too much vitamin A or D in the body.
Therapeutic Class
Multivitamin and multimineral supplement.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and out of the reach of children.
